How to Have Fun at #NACSAcon 2019

How to Have Fun at #NACSAcon 2019

We know charter school authorizers actually think it’s fun to choose from 50 in-depth conference sessions, led by over 100 expert speakers on authorizing topics. We also know authorizers think it’s fun to learn from colleagues and discuss (maybe, debate?) difficult topics on how to make schools amazing for kids.

But, you know what else is fun? Fun is fun. Enjoying your time at #NACSAcon is so important; even charter school authorizers need a recess. This year there are numerous ways for authorizers to retreat, engage, and enjoy St. Louis and their colleagues. Below are just some of the fun events we have planned.

Monday Night Rooftop Reception and Conference Kickoff
When: Monday, October 21 at 6 PM

One of the best parts of this year’s conference venue is its location and the stunning views it offers. From the open-air rooftop of the Hyatt, you’ll have access to the beautiful nighttime skies of St. Louis as well as the easy-moving current of the Mississippi River. We’ll have a full bar (with St. Louis craft beer), and delicious appetizers to enjoy as you reconnect with colleagues.

Riverboat Cruise on the Mighty Mississippi
When: Wednesday, October 23 at 5:30 PM

Join your peers for a two-hour cruise on the Mississippi, which will have fantastic views of the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis. You’ll be entertained with a craft beer and wine bar, tasty hors d’oeuvres (bacon-wrapped scallops and toasted ravioli, to get your mouth watering) and the music of the Dixieland Duo. It’s going to be a fantastic time to have fun and to relax while you take in the fresh air of the Mississippi (RSVP will be required, more information to follow). The boat docks at the Gateway National Park, directly behind the conference venue.

History and Architecture Walking Tour with NACSA CEO Greg Richmond
When: Thursday, October 24 at 9 AM

We’re partnering with Renegade STL, a touring company founded by historian Amanda Clark and featured in the New York Times, to take the famed Downtown History and Architecture Extravaganza of St. Louis walking tour. You’ll walk through time to see the colonial fur trading village, experience the architecture from the Gilded Age, and even walk through some of the not-so-good decisions of urban planners.

Oh, and Greg Richmond, NACSA’s CEO, will join the tour. We should probably lead with Greg. He is an architecture buff, and will, undoubtedly, have some added insights to share.

Impact Booth
When: Tuesday and Wednesday During Session Breaks

Share your story about how authorizing is making an impact in your community by stopping by our Impact Booth near registration during a session break. Come ready to share a challenge you’ve solved that has impacted your schools, parents, and students. Don’t have time to swing by the booth?
